What the Better Animations mod does

Better Animations is the umbrella name for a stack of animation-replacement mods bundled into the Better Minecraft modpack. Not Enough Animations rebuilds first-person swing, block, eat and drink animations so you actually see your character's hands do what they are supposed to do. Fresh Animations plus its resource pack overhauls every mob's idle, walk and combat animations. First Person Model brings your own third-person model into first-person view, so you can see your legs, arms and torso instead of just floating hands.

The combined effect is that Minecraft finally has body language. Villagers gesture when trading, mobs telegraph their attacks, your own character has weight in first-person. It is the single mod stack that most changes how vanilla feels without changing what vanilla does.

Every part of the stack is standalone-installable, use the install guide below for the full Better Animations experience, or cherry-pick.

Features

First-person hand rework

Not Enough Animations rewrites swings, block, sneak, swim, eat, drink and bow-draw animations for the first-person view. Includes visible dual-wield if you also run Better Combat.

Third-person body language

Fresh Animations replaces every mob's idle-stand pose with subtle movement, breathing, weight-shifting, head-tracking. Adds attack telegraphs so you can predict a creeper's fuse or a zombie's lunge.

Visible player body in first-person

First Person Model shows your actual player skin's arms, legs and torso in first-person. You can look down and see your character.

Sneak, sprint, swim overhauls

Sneak becomes a proper crouch, sprint has a running-forward lean, swim has front-crawl arm strokes. All done through the model rig, no resource pack required.

Modded mob support

Fresh Animations includes hooks for popular mob-adding mods (Alex's Mobs, Farm Animals, Better Animals Plus), so those mobs inherit the same animation quality.

Better Animations FAQ

Do animations affect gameplay?

No. Every animation is visual-only. Damage frames, hit boxes and attack timing all still match vanilla.

Fresh Animations without the resource pack?

The mod loads, but you see no changes. The resource pack contains the actual replacement animation textures, both are required.

Does First Person Model cost FPS?

Yes, mildly. Rendering your own model in first-person is roughly the same GPU cost as rendering one extra nearby player. Turn off if you are chasing every frame.

Can I use my own skin?

Yes. Both Fresh Animations and First Person Model read from your normal Mojang skin. Custom cape support is included.
